At-Tariq

Wes-samaa Waltaarik

By the Sky and the Night-Visitant (therein);-

adraka ma At-Tariq

And what will explain to thee what the Night-Visitant is?-

An-najmu Ath-thaaqibu

(It is) the Star of piercing brightness;-

in kullu nafs Lama alayha Hafiz

There is no soul but has a protector over it.

Falyandhur Al-insan memma khulika

Now let man but think from what he is created!

khulika min maa dāfiqin

He is created from a drop emitted-

yakhruju bain As-sulbi Wal-taraib

Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs:

Innahu Ala ruj-ee-hee Laqadir

Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)!

yaum toobla As-sarā'iru

The Day that (all) things secret will be tested,

fama min quwwatin Nasir

(Man) will have no power, and no helper.

Wes-samaa zat Ar-raj-ee

By the Firmament which returns (in its round),

Wal ardi zat As-sad'i

And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),-

Innahu laqowl fasl

Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil):

vama hu bel-haz-li

It is not a thing for amusement.

Innahum yakeedoon kayda

As for them, they are but plotting a scheme,

waa kee-doo kayda

And I am planning a scheme.

Famehille Al-Kafireen amhilhum ru-way-da

Therefore grant a delay to the Unbelievers: Give respite to them gently (for awhile).
