The Winnowing Winds
Bismi Allah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem
Wal dha faith Rayat dharun
By the (Winds) that scatter broadcast;
Falhamilati Waqra
And those that lift and bear away heavy weights;
Fal-jariyat Yusra
And those that flow with ease and gentleness;
Falmuqassimat amran
And those that distribute and apportion by Command;-
too-a-doo-non Lasaadiq
Verily that which ye are promised is true;
wa inna Ad-Deen lava faith Qaf
And verily Judgment and Justice must indeed come to pass.
Wes-samaa zat Al-Hubuki
By the Sky with (its) numerous Paths,
Lafee kawl muhtalif
Truly ye are in a doctrine discordant,
yufkoo anhu ufik
Through which are deluded (away from the Truth) such as would be deluded.
kootila Al-Kharra faith soona
Woe to the falsehood-mongers,-
Alladheena hum fay ghamra sahoon
Those who (flounder) heedless in a flood of confusion:
yas'aloona ayyan yaum ad-Deen
They ask, "When will be the Day of Judgment and Justice?"
yaum hum alay An-nar yuftanuna
(It will be) a Day when they will be tried (and tested) over the Fire!
thoo-koo fitnatukum hatha al-ladhee kuntum behi tastağhilune
"Taste ye your trial! This is what ye used to ask to be hastened!"
Inna Al-muttaqeen fay wa'yooneen
As to the Righteous, they will be in the midst of Gardens and Springs,
a-khi-thi-na atahum Innahum kanoo qibla dha faith leka muhsinin
Taking joy in the things which their Lord gives them, because, before then, they lived a good life.
kanoo kaleelan min Al-layl ma yah-ja-oon
They were in the habit of sleeping but little by night,
Vebël-ashari hum yastaghfiroon
And in the hour of early dawn, they (were found) praying for Forgiveness;
amwa faith Lehim Haqq lil-sa-eel wal mahroomi
And in their wealth and possessions (was remembered) the right of the (needy,) him who asked, and him who (for some reason) was prevented (from asking).
Vafi Al-ard ayat lil-mookineen
On the earth are signs for those of assured Faith,
a-fa-laa tubsirun
As also in your own selves: Will ye not then see?
Vafi As-sama rizkukum vama too-a-doo-non
And in heaven is your Sustenance, as (also) that which ye are promised.
Fovarabi As-sama Wal ardi Innahu lahak mithla anakum tantiqoona
Then, by the Lord of heaven and earth, this is the very Truth, as much as the fact that ye can speak intelligently to each other.
hel Atiaka Hadith zayf Ibra faith heyma Al-mukrameen
Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham?
ith dakh-loo alayhi kala salaam kawm munkaroon
Behold, they entered his presence, and said: "Peace!" He said, "Peace!" (and thought, "These seem) unusual people."
faraga ahlihee fajaa bi'jil sameen
Then he turned quickly to his household, brought out a fatted calf,
Faqqarbahu kala ta'koolon
And placed it before them.. he said, "Will ye not eat?"
faowjasa minhum khaifa Takhaf wa bash-sharuhu Begulam
(When they did not eat), He conceived a fear of them. They said, "Fear not," and they gave him glad tidings of a son endowed with knowledge.
faqbalati imraathu fay sarra fasakkat Wajhaha waa kaalit ajuz akeem
But his wife came forward (laughing) aloud: she smote her forehead and said: "A barren old woman!"
kaza faith leke kala Rabbuki Innahu hu Al-Hakeem Al-'Aleem
They said, "Even so has thy Lord spoken: and He is full of Wisdom and Knowledge."
kala fama Khatbookum ayyuhā Al-mursaloon
(Abraham) said: "And what, O ye Messengers, is your errand (now)?"
Qaloo Inna ursilna ila mujrimeen
They said, "We have been sent to a people (deep) in sin;-
Lenursila alayhim hijarah min Teen
"To bring on, on them, (a shower of) stones of clay (brimstone),
musawwamah enda Rab-bik lil-musrifina
"Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds."
fa-akh-na man kana feeha mina Al-mu'minin
Then We evacuated those of the Believers who were there,
fama Wajadna feeha Ghaira bayt min Al-Muslimin
But We found not there any just (Muslim) persons except in one house:
wa-tarakna Ayah lil-lazeena yakhafoona Al-azaab aleem
And We left there a Sign for such as fear the Grievous Penalty.
Vafi Musa ith Arselnah ila Fir'awn Bisultan
And in Moses (was another Sign): Behold, We sent him to Pharaoh, with authority manifest.
fataualla Biroknihi wa kala saa-hir ow majnoon
But (Pharaoh) turned back with his Chiefs, and said, "A sorcerer, or one possessed!"
Fa-akhazhna wajunoodah fanabizhnahum fay Al-Yammi Wahuwah Muleym
So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame.
Vafi adin ith alayhimu Ar-reeha Al-Aqeem
And in the 'Ad (people) (was another Sign): Behold, We sent against them the devastating Wind:
ma tazaru min shay atet alayhi illa ja'ala-thu karlarmimi
It left nothing whatever that it came up against, but reduced it to ruin and rottenness.
Vafi thamooda ith Keela lahum tamatta'oo hutta
And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!"
fa'ato amri Rabbihim Faakhazathum As-Sā'iqah Wahum yanzuroon
But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on.
fama istatau min kiyam vama kanoo Muntaseereena
Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves.
Waqawm min Innahum kanoo kavmen fasikina
So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed.
Wal-sama banēnahā bejjed wa-inna lamoosi'oon
With power and skill did We construct the Firmament: for it is We Who create the vastness of pace.
Wal-ard Farshnahā fanim Al-Mahidun
And We have spread out the (spacious) earth: How excellently We do spread out!
vamin kulli shay khalaqna zawjayni la'alkum tazakkaroona
And of every thing We have created pairs: That ye may receive instruction.
fafirroo-a ilaa Innee Nazeer mubeen
Hasten ye then (at once) to Allah: I am from Him a Warner to you, clear and open!
taj'alloo ma'a Allah ilahan ah-har Innee Nazeer mubeen
And make not another an object of worship with Allah: I am from Him a Warner to you, clear and open!
kaza faith leka ata Alladheena min min rasoolin illa saa-hir ow Majnoon
Similarly, no messenger came to the Peoples before them, but they said (of him) in like manner, "A sorcerer, or one possessed"!
atawasau hum kawm tāghūn
Is this the legacy they have transmitted, one to another? Nay, they are themselves a people transgressing beyond bounds!
fetaŭella anhum anta bemaloom
So turn away from them: not thine is the blame.
Vezkkir Fainna Adh-Dhikra tanfeu Al-mu'minin
But teach (thy Message) for teaching benefits the Believers.
vama khalaqtu Al-Jinn Wal-insa illa leyaboon
I have only created Jinns and men, that they may serve Me.
oo-ree-doo min rizk oo-ree-doo an yuteemoon
No Sustenance do I require of them, nor do I require that they should feed Me.
Inna Allah hu Ar-Razzaku zu Al-quwwati Al-Mateen
For Allah is He Who gives (all) Sustenance,- Lord of Power,- Steadfast (for ever).
Fainna lel-la-thee-na zalamu zanooban mithla zanoobi Ashabihem fala yasta'jilooni
For the Wrong-doers, their portion is like unto the portion of their fellows (of earlier generations): then let them not ask Me to hasten (that portion)!
fawail lil-lazeena kafaroo min yaw-mi-him al-ladhee yuoadoon
Woe, then, to the Unbelievers, on account of that Day of theirs which they have been promised!
