Al-Layl

Wal-layli eeza yaghsha

By the Night as it conceals (the light);

Walnahaar eeza Tajalla

By the Day as it appears in glory;

vama khalaq Al-dhakara Wal-unthaa

By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;-

Inna sa'iykum Lashaytah

Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse.

fa-amma ata Vattaka

So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah),

wa saddaqa Bilhusna

And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,-

Fasa-nu-yassiruhu Lil yusra

We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss.

wa amma bakhila Vastagnaja

But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient,

wa kath-tha-ba Bilhusna

And gives the lie to the best,-

Fasa-nu-yassiruhu Lil-usra

We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery;

vama yughnee anhu eeza taraddā

Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit).

Inna alayna Lel-huda

Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide,

wa inna lana Lal-akhirah Wal-ul-ya

And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning.

Fa-andhartukum nara Tallaẓẓā

Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely;

yaslaya illa Al-ashqa

None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones

al-ladhee kazzaba

Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs.

wasaiyoujannabuhaa Al-Atqa

But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,-

al-ladhee yoti yatazakka

Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification,

vama le-ahadin indahu min Niemah tuj-jaa

And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return,

illa ibtighaa Wajh Rabbihe Al A'la

But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High;

velasof Yarza

And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction.
